Poppies at Penn Inn
We are invited people of all ages to get involved in our 'Poppies at Penn Inn Project'. The purpose of the event is to mark the centenary of the event of World War One, and also recognise Penn Inn as an important local community space.
You can knit, stitch or stick a poppy and bring it along to add to our community tribute, where poppies will be placed in the ground at Penn Inn over Remembrance Weekend.
Tree and bulb planting will also be taking place over the weekend and a memories book will be available on Friday 9th November.
Anyone is welcome to come along to our FREE poppy making workshops taking place at Buckland & Milber Community Centre in Gilbert Road on the following dates:
Materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you would like to work on a particular project. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
If you can't attend a workshop, you can still get involved by making your own tribute and placing it at Penn Inn over Remembrance weekend. The event will be open from 12.00pm on Friday 9th November throughout the weekend. At 1.00pm on the 9th, representatives from the Newton Abbot branch of the Royal British Legion will be planting a tree to remember and say thank you.
Feel free to make your poppies out of any suitable material, but if you are stuck for ideas there are plenty of knitting patterns avaliable on the internet. You can download a pattern to cut out by clicking here.
Please note all poppies will be removed and recycling on Monday 12th November.
